AKS have worked on several projects I have managed since 2010 up 2022.
They have been without doubt the very best brick laying company I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Not only is the quality of their work second to none but they make every effort to beat programme, work to a very high health and safety standard cooperating with other trades and site teams be proactive regards checking design and highlighting at the earliest possible point any clashes or mistakes with the design or build sequence often giving solutions and innovative thinking to get projects over hurdles.
Commercially they make every effort to minimise additional costs and limit variation orders to the best of their ability.
They are highly organised and have a core workforce who have stayed loyal to the company for over a decade which speaks volumes in the construction industry where many operatives jump from company to company just to get slightly better day rates.
Many of their operatives work on day rates yet perform as if they are doing price work with how much productivity to very high-quality standards, they get done every day.
The first project they worked on for me was a Willmott Dixon £10 million care home in Northfield Birmingham called Saxon Court that when I arrived in May 2010 was 14 weeks behind programme. AKS were brought in as subcontractor to the existing masonry contractors in an effort to get the project back on track and to say that we actually not only gained back the 14 week deficit but handed the project over completed 10 weeks ahead of the contract programme between May 2010 and February 2011 was nothing short of miraculous and the main reason being AKS performing way beyond everyone’s expectations getting us to roof level so we could be water tight before the winter months saved the project. They worked every hour of daylight weekends and bank holidays which in turn saved the project.
Going forwards after Saxon Court they became the first choice for every project Willmott Dixon housing had in the Midlands region but unlike some subcontractors would turn work down rather than overstretch themselves and fail a project. Yet still gave great support to pre con even on projects they could not commit to during the construction phase.
They have consistently delivered on every project I have managed and been instrumental in me personally winning 3 national health and safety and working environment awards over the 7 years I was working for Willmott Dixon.
2012 to 2013 On a project in Yarnton just outside Oxford they shaved 8 weeks off the externals programme on a complicated build with real stone recon stone and 3 different colour bricks without charging for a single variation, working so well with the scaffold company MPT that both companies went on to bid jobs together in the southern regions.
Housekeeping was so good that when birdcages were dropped there was only a layer of dust to clean up not even the need for scrapers.
They have a proper attitude to their apprenticeship scheme whereby they actual train the craft and give real world experience to their trainee’s not just treat them as cheap labourers, many after getting fully qualified are still with AKS to this day.
They have worked on a total of 8 major projects for me between 2010 and 2022 and have always behaved as part of the team willing to go above and beyond when the project required a push.
So often subcontractors start off great then get comfortable and performance/standards start to diminish but not AKS
I have found them to be consistent on every job. Rare indeed.

I’ve known AKS now for over 10 years and they have delivered a number of projects for me over the years of including care homes, university buildings, health facilities and they have always provided me with an excellent service.
Their site operation is meticulously manged by their site teams with stringent attention to programme, quality and health and safety. I am very much a stickler for housekeeping standards and this too is something AKS manage to a very high level. If ever I have an issue on site, whether that’s a technical problem or a programme challenge, then I know Andy Smith is always available on the phone and is also happy to meet me on site at short notice to help provide a solution to the issue.
The biggest compliment I can pay them is that I could not recommend a better brickwork contractor and they are always my 1st choice if I have a brickwork package to deliver.

Following on from the successful completion of the Timber Yard project, AKS Building Ltd. were appointed by Galliard to deliver the Brickwork package at Soho Wharf – a 752 unit scheme comprising of 650 Apartments and 102 Townhouses. AKS Building Ltd. successfully delivered this schemeon an 84 week programme, on fixed price lump sum basiswith no variations.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending AKS Building Ltd. for inclusion on any tender list, and look forward to working together again in the future should the opportunity arise.

Additionally, AKS were able throughout the contract able to offer advice & cost effective solutions for the work packages including any extra works to assist in the final successful completions. AKS team were always accommodating and easy to work with,  Communication was excellent both during and at planning, pre-construction and up to defects inspection stages.
